A daughter's spark

My mother made clothes for me. Her mother made clothes for her. There's a lineage here—a tradition of creating beautiful, lasting things by hand, passing down not just garments but the values of craft, care, and intention. I grew up watching my mother at her sewing machine, understanding that making something with your own hands is an act of love. That's where this comes from.

When my daughter Sabine was born, something shifted. I found myself reaching for my watercolor paints in moments that used to feel too busy for art. I'd sketch designs while she played nearby—flowers blooming across paper, whimsical creatures taking shape. There was no pressure, no deadline. Just the quiet joy of making something beautiful while watching her grow.

I wanted to see those paintings come alive in a different way. What if she could wear them? So I started creating garments with my own designs, watching her face light up as she pulled on a dress or shirt covered in the colors and patterns I'd painted by hand. The joy was contagious. She loved wearing what I made, and I realized something essential: that feeling of delight, of wearing something created with care and love—that was something I wanted to share beyond our home.

The craft: from hand to heart

Each piece starts the same way it always has: with a brush, with water, with watercolor paints in my studio in Austin, Texas. I paint every design entirely by hand, from scratch. No shortcuts. No templates. It takes time, and that's the point.

Once a design is painted, I photograph it, digitize it myself, and figure out how to tile and arrange it into a pattern. Then comes the collaboration with manufacturers to bring that whimsical watercolor magic onto the exact items and layouts I envision. Every color placement, every repeat, every proportion matters. It all goes back to that original hand-painted moment—to intention, to care, to the belief that what we wear should make us feel something.

Heirloom, not disposable

This is about more than beautiful art on fabric. Every piece is made to last—to be worn, loved, and passed down. The same way my grandmother's handmade clothes held history, the way my mother's creations carried intention and care, each Hello Violet Page design is meant to become part of a family's story.
